After my last pregnancy, I developed Perioral Dermatitis (POD) – a skin condition often appearing as red, irritated rashes around the mouth and nose. Since I previously had problem skin with both acne and sensitivity, this could have been a mental rollercoaster. But it wasn't. I actually managed to heal my skin in just one week (!)
Here, I share exactly what I did – in the hope that it can also help you who are struggling with similar issues.
What is Perioral Dermatitis?
Perioral dermatitis is an inflammatory skin condition that often affects women, especially after hormonal changes such as pregnancy. It can be triggered by stress, hormonal shifts, fluoride toothpaste, overwashing, or strong products, among other things.
My approach? Curiosity and calm instead of panic. Skin is intelligent – it signals what it needs. When we step back and listen, it finds its way back to balance.
How I healed my Perioral Dermatitis in 7 days
🌿 I simplified my skincare routine:
Only three steps – morning and evening:
- Clear Makeup Remover on dry skin, rinse with cold water (no cleanser with surfactants).
- Beauty Drops No.1 – a soothing serum with centella asiatica.
- Extreme No.1 Cream – to protect, moisturize, and strengthen the skin barrier.
🧴 Important complementary measures:
- No makeup on the affected area
- Only cold water – no hot rinsing
- Phyto Mask No.2, twice a week for 20 minutes (anti-inflammatory)
- Brushing teeth before skincare, so no toothpaste gets on the skin
💛 Lifestyle & nervous system: a part of healing
Skincare is not just products – it's also about how we live and feel. Here's what helped my skin calm down:
- Slow walks in nature – to calm the nervous system
- Daily movement – something that felt good in the body
- Plenty of water – I always had my Stanley bottle filled with ice-cold water
- Fresh air & daylight every day
