The most basic and important step in your skin care routine is: cleansing . Taking the time to remove makeup and wash your face thoroughly will ensure you see visible improvements. Here are some basic tips for how you should think about this step, which is A & O.
Think about what your skin is exposed to in a day. Everything from make-up and sweat to particles in the air such as exhaust gases and dirt. Cleansing is the first step in any skin care routine and is beneficial in several ways. If the skin is not cleaned properly, dirt and impurities accumulate on the surface of your skin and can be the cause of rashes, dryness and eventually aging.
Maintain clear skin
To protect itself against external attacks, the skin produces sebum . It is an important building block for the lipid barrier . It also keeps the skin supple. If the sebum is left on the skin's surface for too long, mixing with dirt, dead skin cells and makeup, without being cleaned off, it can create blockages in the pores. It can in turn trap bacteria ( P. acnes ) which leads to inflammation/acne.
Increase hydration
A regular cleansing routine is also an important factor in helping the skin maintain a good moisture level. Signs of dehydrated skin are often: rough, reactive, wrinkled, gray and flaky. Also remember to drink water! Have a glass right now and then read on.
Stay young
Your skin ages at its own rate every day. Pollution and environmental toxins can speed up that process. Cleansing the skin of unwanted particles and free radicals is an easy way to reduce their impact on the skin and fight aging.
Increase product efficiency
Without cleansing, your skin would be covered with a layer of old skin cells , dirt, sebum & makeup. This makes it difficult for active ingredients applied on top to penetrate and thus work. The cleansing prepares for other skin care products and will therefore make it more receptive to other treatment steps such as: exfoliation , mask , serum and cream .
We recommend that you clean your face once in the morning and once in the evening. If you want to advance, you can also read about double cleaning . It's a great technique for your evening routine.
How to clean the face?
Apply your cleanser to dry skin over the forehead, cheeks, chin, neck & décolleté . Then massage the cleanser in in circular and upward movements, for about 2 minutes. Add a little plain water if necessary and continue the massage. Then rinse your face with cold water. Pat your face dry with a clean, soft towel or muslin. Then follow up with the treatment products that meet your specific needs. Do you need help finding the right one? Let us help you by clicking here.
Finally, we want to answer this question:
"Why can't I use my hand soap/shower soap on my face?"
Are you used to getting that sparkling clean feeling you get from soap? It may be time to change your mindset, especially if you constantly experience dry skin. Soap and foaming mousse can disrupt the skin's barrier function , the acid mantle , and wash away the skin's good oils. It provides a clean barrier for the moment but it will cause you problems in the long run. It can also cause the skin to increase oil production , creating an imbalance and acne.
