Each capsule contains 2000 international units (IU) of vitamin D, equivalent to 50 micrograms – roughly the amount the body can produce after 20–30 minutes of sun exposure in strong sunlight.
The D3 vitamin in this product is the same form your skin produces when exposed to the sun's UVB rays. Vitamin D plays a crucial role in:
- The normal function of the immune system
- The strength of muscles and bones
- Maintaining normal teeth
- The absorption of calcium and phosphorus
- Normal blood calcium levels
Why do we need vitamin D, especially in the Nordics?
Vitamin D affects over 2000 genes and has effects on almost all bodily functions. But for us to produce vitamin D in the skin, the sun needs to be at least 45 degrees above the horizon — something that only happens during the summer months at our northern latitudes. During the winter months, the sunlight is simply too weak for the skin to produce enough vitamin D. Furthermore, the skin must be exposed without clothes, which is not always possible even during the summer.
The result? Vitamin D stores are at their lowest in spring – a period that also coincides with an increased risk of seasonal fatigue and depression.
Interaction with magnesium and vitamin K2
For vitamin D to do its job optimally, cooperation with other nutrients is needed:
- Vitamin K2 helps direct calcium to the bones and prevents it from being stored in soft tissues like blood vessels.
- Magnesium is necessary to activate vitamin D in the body, and without sufficient magnesium, you may find it difficult to raise your blood vitamin D levels despite supplementation.
Combining vitamin D with magnesium and K2 is therefore a smart way to ensure effective absorption and optimal effect.
